Wii Shop Update without updating Wii

This page lets you know how to upgrade your Wii Shop so you can buy and download games without updating your Wii's firmware.

Note: It is highly recommended that you just use a normal System Update to update the Shop rather than following these steps, but they are here for if you are having trouble.

What to download

  • DOP-Mii Wii Brew Edition v16 or later via this page.
  • If your Wii is not connected to the Internet, you will also need:
    • Use NUS Downloader to get RVL-Shopping-v20.wad with the Pack WAD option switched on with title ID "0001000248414241" of the latest version (currently v20 at time of writing). You can also select via the Database in System rather than NUS
    • Also download IOS56 v5662 with Title ID 0000000100000038 with the Pack WAD option switched on to get IOS56-64-v5662.wad
    • Also Download IOS61 v5662 with Title ID 000000010000003D with the Pack WAD option switched on to get IOS61-64-v5662.wad

Installation procedure

  1. Remove all GameCube memory cards and controllers.
    • This step is very important. Do not ignore it.
  2. Unzip the "DOP-Mii Wiibrew Edition v16.zip" file and copy the contents of the "Dop-Mii Wiibrew Edition/apps" folder to "sd:/apps".
    • You should now have an "sd:/apps/DOP-Mii WiiBrew Edition/boot.dol" file on the SD card among other files.
  3. If your Wii is not connected to the Internet, copy RVL-Shopping-v20.wad to sd:/ and rename it to "Shopping Channel-NUS.wad". Also copy the other two wads with their default filenames to sd:/
  4. Start the Homebrew Channel and run Dop-Mii.
  5. Press A at the intro screen.
  6. Select the default IOS by pushing A.
  7. You will be asked if you want to use AHBPROT. Press A to accept.
  8. Wait for the patches to apply, then push A.
  9. Select Channels and push A.
  10. Select Shopping Channel and push + to install
    • Do NOT under any circumstances change the region.
  11. Read the warning then push A to continue.
  12. When prompted to download Shopping Channel v20 select "Download from NUS" with left/right and push A.
    • If not connected to the Internet, select to "Load WAD from SD Card" instead.
  13. When prompted to push any button to return to the menu, do so.
  14. Push B to return to the main menu of Dop-Mii.
  15. Select IOS, BC, MIOS and push A.
  16. Select IOS56 with left/right for the title.
  17. Push down and select v5662 (or the latest version) for the version with left/right and push + to install.
  18. Read the warning then push A to continue.
  19. When prompted to download IOS56 select Download from NUS with left/right and push A.
  20. When prompted to push any button to return to the menu, do so.
  21. Select IOS61 with left/right for the title.
  22. Push down and select v5662 for the version with left/right and push + to install.
  23. Read the warning then push A to continue.
  24. When prompted to download IOS61 select Download from NUS with left/right and push A.
  25. When prompted to push any button to return to the menu, do so.
  26. Press Home to exit
