Hello everybody,

On my 3rd soft-modding of the Wii, I used letterbomb with GAF's Tutorial (Wii is connected to the Internet) and everything works, games on usb hd & forwarder also, but only if I use with the SD.
Steps used:

1) Letterbomb
2) Homebrew Channel 1.0.8
3) BootMii / hackMii 0.8
4) Formatted USB notebook HDD Toshiba 60GB to FAT32 using FAT32_GUI_Formatter.exe (This HDD worked on the 2 other Wii's)
5) IOS236 Installer v6
6) d2x cIOS Installer v2.2, Slot 248 - Base 56, Slot 247 - Base 57
7) Hermes' IOS222/223, Slot 224 - Base 37 v5.1)
8) CFG USB Loader v70 and uses 248 (meta.xml done)
9) Finally, Forwarder used: USBLoaderCFG - UCXF - IOS58 v11b Stripes.wad

For my other two Wii's I run everything off USB HD, for this setup I cannot, even though I moved sd:/apps & sd:/usb-loader to usb hd. Homebrew will not see apps and CFG (or forwarder) will not run.

I've searched forums and any help would be appreciated !

Oh, and when I press "1" from Homebrew, 'USB Device' cannot be selected.

I'm also on Boot2 v4 if that is relevant.

Is it exactly the same drive as the other Wiis or the same model? I'm not sure why one Wii wouldn't like it but the others would. Is there a difference in the firmware versions perhaps?

Used 60GB for setups only, then purchased another that had more space.
4.3u I've used for all..

I have a Hitachi 20 GB I could try. Maybe the newer/larger drives were made to run all from USB after the fact?

Homebrew wont see the 20 GB either. But will play usb:/wbfs games only if SD is in.

That is all very strange. The one thing I could suggest doing is to reformat the drive once more or perhaps to do a full repartitioning with Easeus or GParted to ensure the whole drive is mapped to one partition.

ftpii won't mount usd hd either, odd that it will only play games and rip disc to USB HDD. Time for newer HDD i figure.

Now CFG usb loader won't work w/SD in, guess it's a shoddy HDD. Thanks for your input.

Now CFG works, is the HDD sleeping? No mount from ftpii but WiiXplorer reads USB. Must be different forced levels of reading that are not compatible.

Am I missing files in the root of the usb?
usb:
/apps
../usbloader
../InstForwarder
/usb-loader
/wbfs

Is a root boot.elf needed?

WiiXplorer can FTP to usb just not the app ftpii.

No, that seems right. I think the sleeping idea is actually quite logical, though. Try switching the drive off and then on again before you start the HBC or other apps.

Done did that first off, thx! This Wii or the letterbomb install may be the root of the problem ..not reading from homebrew w/out SD. I've previously, before opening this topic, re-installed from letterbomb 2x. Anyways, I found five 3.5" IDE HDDs and two 2.5 hdds, gonna play around, got house to myself today.

Why when in HBC and pressing '1', USB Device is grey'd out? CFG runs fine. I've never had to use '1' before..

It's got to be some low level HDD reading that these HDs are not compatible with. Shell out the $50 for a =<300 GB approved HD.

Where is that tested hardware list.? I know 'search'

..and I don't have any other Wii's here. Previously used Smash Bros on other two.
