I'm trying to get homebrew to work so I followed the instructions to install the IOS236, I'm habitually used to tapping A through each instruction set for every homebrew app. Well I didn't fully read it and accidentally hit A on "Step 2" asking about being a pirate, and now everytime I try to reinstall it it tells me I "need to try harder than that". Now I'm confused, what am I supposed to do? I know I know I should have paid more attention, my mistake. But what should I do now so I can get this installed after all?

Make sure you have v2 (I added this earlier this morning) and retry 5 times. The installer will give you a hint to solve the puzzle.
I did the same thing as apocalyp, but after the 3rd "pirate run-through", I reloaded the SD card with new install files. Now I get an Exception (DSI) occurred! and Stack Dump 80042db8 —> 8000b9ac —> 800043cc —> 80026dcc —> 80026d6c everytime I try to run Ios236 V4. I even have a internet connection on the Wii. But what should I do now so I can get this installed? It is getting very discouraging.
Yes, well, it hasn't sunk in for me yet >_< Help?
just run a wii game from a disc then go back to the installer. it will start from the beginning
And what counts as piracy anyway? I thought all game backups were pirated. I've only played a backup of MH3 that I got before I had the game but I liked the game so much I bought it so apparently I'm not a pirate now? I still used a torrent to download a game, I thought that was piracy, whether you paid for a disc copy or not.
By downloading games, you are supporting the act of the pirate/s that illegally uploaded the game. It is up to you to decide whether you find that ethical or not, but you get to play my game anyway. There are several very easy techniques to escape, and I hope you enjoyed playing :).
i bought a wii and decided i wanted better load times on smash, so i tried this method and everytime i try to open the v2 of ios236 it's going to "so this is…." but i havent even ran it once.
any suggestions?? moc.liamg|2hseruqss#moc.liamg|2hseruqss
If what you say is true, then you just had a one in four million chance come up. Perhaps you should buy a lottery ticket.
Try v3 of the installer which I just released, and try following the hint it will give you after 5 or 6 tries.
I found if there is no network setting in the Wii console ,it's very very
like to get 'code dump' after clicking on the "1" (to start the application).
Is it a bug ?
Because once I set up the necessary network setting (WiFi) in the
Wii console , the program just works fine. I tried 2 different Wii
and different SD cards or use USB disc , the result is the same.
Ah, that might actually be the problem. I'll do some tests to see if that does have an effect.
It most definitely does have an effect. It seems it can even crash before pushing 1 when there is no network enabled.
Now I just need to figure out how to get this working when the network is not enabled.
I just tested the latest v3 and got the same problem (code dump/stack dump) if there is no network setting.
I saw the FAQ and understand " A workaround is being searched for".
Hopefully there will be a new version (V4) to fix this problem soon.
Anyway, this tool is great to softmod a 4.3J virgin Wii (with all Korean IOSes) after HBC is installed.
Good job !!
v4 is released and gives you a lot more time before it should cause an error.
I tried v4 around 10 times (w/o network setting) and only
succeeded one time (9 out of 10 still got DSI -code dump error
after clicking on "1" to start the application).
The only one time worked was I had to finish all processes
in around 10 secs. (then I still got DSI error after everything
was finished . Fortunately, I checked and found IOS236 was
Not sure if it's possible to make it better ??
I'm getting DSI errors (and code dump) during install using v4 and no network:
8002833c —> 80030168 —> 8002874c —> 8000536c
I have the wad file on the SD card so there should be no problems there. It freezes at different points during the install every time I try. I'm starting to run out of ideas. I have a USB network adapter hooked up (but not connected to my router) so I'll unplug that and see what happens.
Unplugging my USB network adapter appears to have worked. Got all the way through the install that time with no problems.
Well, I did all the things that the tutorial says, but when I'm going to install IOS249, the IOS236 doesn't appear… What can it be? ;/
got the same problem, have u solved it? wish someone could help us :)
I'm getting the stack dump error right after I press the 1 button in the first step. What could it be?
The program worked the first time but then it called me a pirate, which I found absolutely outrageous. How dare this program which obviously circumvents shrinkwrap EULAs call ME a pirate? I am positively flustered by these foul accusations to my impecable character, sir.
No but seriously now. I inserted a gamecube copy (star fox adventures if you must know) and then tried. After that, the crash happens every single time when I press 1 or start with a gamecube controller. I tried loading up wii sports afterwards but it hasn't helped at all. I don't have wifi but I tried configuring a connection anyway to no avail.
Any suggestions? It was hilarious until it stopped working, man. Now don't tell me I have corrupted crap in my NAND, please.
Downloading devkitpro to try and skip the piracy check, see if thats the problem. Any ideas would be helpful…
You're the one that told the app you wanted to pirate stuff…
Anyway, this problem can be solved by making sure your Wii's Internet connection is stable. It has absolutely nothing to do with the piracy check. I am trying to figure out a way to make it work when you don't have stable Internet, but that is very difficult as it seems to be a problem with the dev tools rather than the app itself.
You're the one that told nintendo you wouldn't reverse engineer when you opened that box. You're just as guilty, bub =P
Anyway, the problem seems to have gone away. No idea why. I managed to get through the install. Thanks for responding and your hard work. The trap was hilarious XD
A few comments:
- The method selection step (sd, network) is too low on the screen. It was actually off-screen in my TV and I had to guess. Might wanna add some padding when you get a chance to support more TVs.
- Also, given the heisenbug nature of the wireless problem, why not consider separate versions of the app? One for offline install and another for network install. That way the people who will do offline installation (whom all too likely don't have a connection at all) wont run into trouble.
The trap was meant to be hilarious, so I'm glad you enjoyed it.
I'll take the padding into suggestion. That's a lot of overscan you have there, though…
And creating two versions of the app won't really help. The crash happens even when you don't have network code in there. The problem is in the Wii dev libraries, which is why its so hard to find.
5:00 Am in the morning.
Stable connection to the internet. (Internet channel works fine…)
DSI errors everytime i hit 1 to start the program.
I think i'm going mad.
Just a little bit.
So, any hints on what to do?
*cries himself to sleep*
If you don't push 1, does it crash? What firmware are you on?
If WiFi works fine and still get DSI-code dump , it could be
the SD card problem. Try to re-format the SD card ………
@Dr. Clipper, it is possible to build an off-line version of IOS236
installer ? That may be fixed the DSI-code dump problema ?
Nope. The problem occurs even if you just run a Hello World type application. Test with Dop-Mii Wiibrew Edition or most other AHBPROT apps. They will all crash randomly in the same way if you don't have a stable Internet connection.
The problem is in the libraries we have for compiling Wii apps, not the code for this or any other app.
Same problem… How could this be fixed?
I deleted wifi connection information, cable is not connected, the SD card has wad file in it… just keep getting the dump error
Is it really only by the network issue?
Wondering how to do… i accidentally clicked on .wad file within the Wad Manager of MMM, im not sure if that did some bad things ;/
is it OK to try again and again and even if that error occurs, is the important file safe? can I try it again without breaking it? >___<
Well i also once pressed the Pirate-option. But the channel indicated that it removed the change, and afterwards the channel was not installed. So i tried again, after that everytime when i started the tool i got the Dump code. (As described above).
But now 1 night later, the tool works at the first try…
Just to give you all a sign of hope.
The new libogc 1.8.4 was released (async network init fixed) several days ago.
Is it possible to compile an updated IOS236 installer by using this new
lib (to solve the DSI code dump issue ) ? or it also has to wait an updated HBC
to use this new libogc ?
Yes, but I am away from my Wii for a few weeks, so it might be a while before I can test it works. I'll try to do an untested compile and release just in case it works.
Okay, so the trap is funny, but it would be even more so if it didnt remove the ios236 and make it impossible to load it again. I understand that the way around this is to slap a store bought wii game into the disc loader, however, What happens when your disc drive doesnt work and that is the whole point of making your wii capable of playing games from an external media? Btw, this is exactly my problem. I have like 25 wii games downstairs sitting beside my wii but every time I try to run one the wii makes a bunch of weird noises and says something along the lines of refer to the wii manual, which doesnt really help. My work around was to load the games via my computer onto a drive and run them from there, which was all fine a good until I just got the new guitar hero. get the iso onto my drive and it wont work. read a tutorial that says I need to use hermes222/223 in order to make it work, requirements for that program end up being ios236, which I had originally got along fine without. Technically Im breaking the pirating laws by making backup copies of my games, which is why I made the noobish decision to click the piracy one. Anyway is there anyway around this thing? I think Im one of the lucky ones who hasnt had any of the errors mentioned in the post.
Yes, there is another very easy way to get around the problem. You need to give your Wii a rest for a while. A proper rest.
I have this exact same issue, and taking into consideration this entire little trap, I'd like to know EXACTLY what you mean by "a proper rest"…. Do you mean I should just quit my wii, wasting my hard-earned money? Or just leave it unplugged/off for a while?
Funny. Alrighty, Leaving it off for a while SHOULD fix this issue, right?
Alright. Thanks for clearing that up! *Quits his wii, wasting his hard earned money*
IOS236 v5 has been released using the new libogc which should hopefully fix the crashes once and for all. If you were one of the people experiencing problems, this should hopefully fix them. Please post if you are successful or you still get failures as I cannot test this release myself for at least two weeks.
I still got the DSI/Code dump error if there is no necessary network setting.
The details were the first time I used a normal WiFi environment to test
and everything was OK.
Then I removed the WiFi setting and reboot my machine to try, it just showed
me the message " ……… you'are a priate …………… Press any button to
exit" -> then I got the DSI/Code dump error after I clicked on "A".
I did tried several times . Sometimes it wasn't "Code Dump" until
the 6th or 7th times . ( because I always got the "bothered" message
"………………. this is the 'XXX' times ……. I will give you a hint …………)
To tell the truth, the message " ……..this is the "XXX" times ………."
is not user friendly…
What worked for me was opening up the IOS236 loader with one wiimote. then pressing 1 with another wiimote to start the installation. I dont know why. But it worked.
Quick question = sorry if it has been answered.
I want to try and play backups of come wii games I have made. I own these games! (not piracy)
HOWEVER, because I am trying to play a backup, do I need to enable the piracy thing (pressing 2)
Sorry - total noob :P
