As long as you use the new method listed on the site, you should be good. We've had confirmed reports from several people that the method works on 4.1 and nobody has complained of it failing.
Risk of bricking is very low as long as you follow the instructions provided.
Everything went smoothly and is working fine. Lots of thanks for good tips and advices. But I still have one question. Now that I have installed homebrew channel, bottmii, IOS249, USB-loader etc. Can I delete the Trucha Bug Restorer and IOS249/Boot.dol files from the SD-card, so they wouldnt be visible in the Homebrew channel or will that result in to disaster?
-Thanks
Yes, it is safe to remove any and all apps from the sd:/apps directory.
I installed IOS249 rev14 via my HBC on my 3.4U Wii. The CFG USB Loader works beautifully. I had two questions:
1. There were warnings that IOS249 doesn't work well with Brawl, mine is wonderful… Is this perhaps a fluke?
2. I'd like to update to 4.1U, it has features I'd like to have access to (ie. loading channels from SD =d). Will I have to reflash the IOS249 or will it be unaffected by the update? I can only find information regarding the safety of flashing IOS249 AFTER the Wii is 4.1 and it's not relevant to me. Seeing as I won't be near a computer for a while… I'd like to not worry about reflashing.
1. Try watching the How To Play video. It will crash.
Can anyone confirm that these instructions work on a virgin 4.2?
I can confirm that it should work, and that I have a backup plan that will definitely get it working with a few more steps if the current one doesn't work. There is also nothing that should be able to brick your Wii, so it's safe to try it out, and I'd be grateful :).
Hi.
I have followed the guide "Installing Waninkoko's IOS249 for use with USB Loader". The wii is not connected to the internet so I have copied both .wad files to the root of the SD card.
It seems like the installer finds the .wad file, but at step 16 when pressing A to install, I get this error:
"ES_AddTitleStart returned: -1035
Has your installed IOS36 a higher revision then 3094?
IOS36 installation failed."
Any suggestions?
If the Wii is not connected to the Internet, then you shouldn't be at firmware 4.2. Are you sure you are following the correct instructions?
Hi again.
OK, I'll have to explain that.
The wii is connected to the internet through wifi and just after the connection I updated to 4.2E. (I'm totally new to the wii world!)
But during the IOS249 installation I don't get the option "Download IOS from NUS" only "Load IOS from sd card", thats why I wrote the wii was not connected to the internet.
I can see the guide has been updated, should I give it another try?
im experiencing the same situation as mads
only my line that states "has your installed ios36 a higher revision than 3351" rather than his 3049
any help is appreciated
I just updated the tutorial with a new method that definitely works. It appears the previous method only worked on some, but not all Wiis.
sweet. I have moved on to installing the ios 249, and everthing works but, the last bit where it says
"installing custom ios, please wait……..
»> install ERROR! (ret = -1035)"
then it finishes up.
thanks for the help thus far btw
i just tried ios 250 coming from the 4.2 method and it worked
so im gonna move on
So you followed the new method that include AnyTitle Deleter and you get that? Try the offline install method. Also, ensure you are choosing the right IOS for installation of IOS249.
Hi again.
I have now got the IOS249 installed on my virgin 4.2 :-)
I did use the new guide, but when installing the cIOS38_rev14 I got the error -1035. Then I did goto to the "Updating IOS249" and did the AnyTitleDeleter Mod v6b steps, and then installed the cIOS38_rev14 with success. All the wad files has been running form the SD card during installation.
So now I'm on the track and will continue with the Hermes' IOS222/223 tomorrow.
Very nice guide for a beginner like me, thanks.
Hi again.
Today I tried installing the IOS249 on another virgin 4.2E, and at step 12 (AnyTitle Deleter Mod v6b) I got error -1017.
I then jumped to the section "Installation procedure", here I got the error -1035, and then did the "Updating IOS249" steps, and then retried the "Installation procedure" and it all worked.
So I moved on with the installation of Hermes' IOS 222/223 and then with Usb Loader without any problems :-)
Thanks again for the well written tutorials.
I am trying to get the USB Loader on to my 4.2U Wii using your tutorial and I've encountered a couple errors using ATDM. After running boot.dol from HBC, and selecting IOS236, i get Error! ISFS_Delete (ret= -102) and then ES_OpenContent (ret = -1017). It still proceeds past the error but the files I'm supposed to delete after that aren't there. Any ideas?
Not sure if its exactly the same as Mads' last post so I don't know if I want to try that or not.
Please help!
I am on the section "Updating ISO249" (However, some people have problems trying to reinstall IOS249 after an official Nintendo update to 4.2 (receiving error 1035). I cannot get AnyTitleDeleter to delete any of the specified IOS's. I tried with IOS236 and nothing was deleted. Therefore, I switched to ISO250 (as specified in this section of the guide) and the wii locks up every time after selecting ISO250 and hitting 'A'. I have re-tried this step at least 4-5 times and the wii locks up everytime! I have tried and re-tried and very methodically and carefully followed the guide.
I have even re-updated (to v4.2U) and re-did everything (except for installing the HBC) thinking maybe I missed a step. No luck.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Here is some additional information…
I have firmware 4.2U with the HBC and BootMii installed (lastest version of both). I ran through the Trucha Bug Restorer (downgrade IOS15, IOS15 -> IOS236, restore IOS15) - no problems (as far as I can tell).
The next step is supposed to delete IOS222, 223, 249, and 250 using IOS236. Failing that, IOS250 is used to delete IOS222, 223, and 249.
My problem is that IOS236 fails to delete anything. Trying IOS250 just locks up the wii (and it "loses" the connection to the wiimote - it just blinks the 4 blue lights). Same thing happens if I use IOS36.
Could it be that I have several channels already installed that are interfering? I have a N64 game, SNES game, NES game, WiiFit, and one of the WiiWare games.
Try alternate settings for the options to patch IOS36 when installing IOS236. I have a feeling the ES_Identify patch (or something similar sounding) needs to be on. It seems only some Wiis need this. If you find settings that allow IOS236 to delete the stubs, then please post what they are so that I can update the tutorial accordingly.
hi there,
i have the exact same problem, when i try to load IOS236 in AnyTitleDeleter i get a series of error messages like this
ticket delete failed (no ticket?) -102
error! ISFS_Delete (ret = -102)
error! ISFS_Open (ret = -102)
reading TMD failed!
error! ISFS_OpenContent (ret = -1017)
i can then click through to the menu but am unable to remove any of IOS222, 223, 249, and 250
tried reinstalling everything again but same result (settings on installing IOS236 were yes/yes/no)
any suggestions?
ok after reinstalling IOS236 with the settings as yes/yes/yes, i was able to delete all the files using AnyTitleDeleter!
unfortunately when i tried installing USBLoader it says "Error Custom IOS249 can not be loaded".
one step forward, two steps back…..
Got it fixed! I used Amarokz guide here: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=183064
I believe the key was installing IOS248 v65280 via a WadManager through BootMii.
That is an old method that shouldn't be needed, and what you are doing in Wad Manager is actually deleting, just like with AnyTitle Deleter. You never mentioned actually using the cIOS38 rev 14 installer (the 3.2 steps) after deleting the stubs. Did you do that?
I got kind of the same problem, after following the instructions I got to IOS249, all other steps had worked perfectly to this point. When trying to "load" the ios249 nothing hapens, I then tried to do all steps before again, and did the Trucha Bug Restorer Mod again no problems there, then continued with ATDM part and choosed ios250, klicked on the A button and the system hanged. Then whet back to the Tucha Bug Restorer Mod and it does not start at all. just like the IOS249, I'm on a virgin 4.2 system.
If IOS250 was still there when you went back to ATDM, then something is very strange (either it didn't delete the first time, or you did install IOS249 just fine the second time). I don't know what you mean by the step to load ios249. There is no such step in the tutorial for virgin 4.2 Wiis. Are you perhaps talking about running the IOS249 Installer?
Hi,
I followed the instructions for a virgin 4.2 updated through Nintendo's official update, and everything worked great, thank you! My quesion is, if at some point I'd want to revert the changes I've made (to send the console for repairs etc.), would this be doable, and if so, how? I know HBC, DVDX and BootMii can all be uninstalled the same way they were installed, but is there any way of reverting all the reloading, deleting and replacing of IOS done during this installation?
Thanks in advance, and a million thank yous for a great, easy to follow guide!
followed the steps to the letter everything says succussfull install yet when i try to launch mini ninjas via usbloader (brisma mod) i still get the 002 error. running 4.2u with rev14 cios on a 2007 wii
As far as I can tell, that loader hasn't updated since April. You need a loader which has the 002 fix. Install Configurable USB Loader and you should find that it works perfectly. You can even configure it to make it look like the Brisma Mod Loader if you like.
hi, i am running a 4.2E and was able to reach step 12 but from there i get an error…
"informing the wii that i am its daddy…Error! ES_Identify (ret = -1017) Error! ES_OpenContent (ret = -1017)"
from here the wii appears to be frozen and i power off and on to get back to the main screen.
Any advise on where i should go from here?
Thanks
Did you make sure to patch the es_identify patch into IOS236? Try that again (you should probably be able to use IOS236 this time and won't need to downgrade/restore IOS15 again).
Edit: I might also add tro ensure you got the correct version of ATDM. There are a few on that page.
