Doctor, I recently changed from a two WFBS partition drive to a single Fat32 drive of 690GB. I now no longer see the games when I start /config USB loader. The games are organized with a folder for each game in the root of the HDD. Inside each folder is the one or two 4G wbfs files for the game. What am I doing wrong? UncT

Hi, I used the tutorial here to softmod my WII and get Configurable USB-loader working and it is so great. It really is made easy for all to understand what to do! That is why I am so frsutrated that you have not included Preloader amoung your tutorials.
I am really scared of doing stuff wrong and would LOVE to have preloader installed so that I can restore a NAND-backup. You explain how to install BootMII, but only very old WIIs can install it is boot2 - the rest of us are just screwed if we get a brick… UNLESS….
You show us how to install preloader! :D I personally am on 4.2E and after doing your softmod-tutorial, I get an error when I try to install preloader with WAD-manager. It says "Failed - IOS36 has the fakesign bug fixed" or something like that.
How cool would it be if you had a preloader tutorial with the same "Click here if you are on 4.2" and so on -style!
I hope you can help me, and maybe also people who used ypur tutorials but who also want preloader installed :D
While I agree there are some uses, Priiloader in its current form is just too dangerous to provide a tutorial for. It is very easy to brick your Wii with this installation and it is not something I recommend to people.
The safest brick protection is prevention. There is little to no brick risk in any of the applications listed here, and all other applications that could brick your Wii are completely unnecessary to ever install. Stay away from WAD installations of any kind except those advocated in this tutorial and don't update without checking here first to see it is safe, and you will never brick your Wii.
In addition to that, Priiloader is simply too volatile. Every version has different installation methods and new ones are coming all the time. Trying to list instructions for the various Wii types needed would be very difficult given these vast changes in the application.
Hence, I'm sorry, but Preloader/Priiloader installation will not be discussed on this Wiki. It's benefits are extremely minor (as long as you prevent your own bricks by not being stupid) and I do believe that listing a set of instructions for it on the GWHT would probably brick more Wiis by users' silly errors during the installation than it would save.
Thank you so much for your reply :)
I understand your reasons, but at the same time - people are trying to install preloader from other tutorials that are not as safe as yours. Why not give your ardent followers the choice? You could state all the facts you just mentioned to me, and then try to give directions for people who followed your softmod tutorial, still wanting to install preloader.
Only those deseperately wanting to install preloader would then use the tutorial and they would be better off, since the other tutorials out there are so terrible and incompatible with YOUR tutorial! I myself bricked a WII trying to install preloader because it was so impossible to find any coherent steps between the regular softmod from you and the preloader-installation. I wished so badly for a tutorial from GAF! :)
I hope that you will reconsider, or perhaps give me a tip on what I need to do to get a version of preloader and other files I need for it to install, having used your tutorial to softmod my WII.
You make an interesting point, but the matter stands that I would not be happy with such a dangerous tutorial on the site. The other tutorials are testament to this. It would be very difficult to work out all the points to make a safe set of instructions for everyone that would have little risk of bricking. Another point I forgot to mention earlier is that I don't want to install Priiloader myself, and installing these apps myself is a necessary component of the tutorials on the site.
As for your problem, I suggest that you make sure you look into Priiloader as you are on firmware 4.2. From what I do know of the whole situation, that is the name it took as the continuation after the Preloader project was abandoned. I think the current version of Priiloader for 4.2 is 0.30. That's pretty much everything I know on the subject, unfortunately.
I can certainly understand your reasons - especially that you do not want to install priiloader yourself. I am very impressed with the depth and speed of replies in this forum, and I will continue to use GAF for everything I can, and recommend it to others.
Also, I will give priiloader v.0.30 a try, though I think I need to install a WAD for it to work. The problem is that I do not know which one now that I am on 4.2E after an offline safe update, and have used your softmod-tutorial. If anyone out there knows, be sure to let me know ;)
Thank you for your time!
Update! I installed priiloader!!
I followed this guide: http://sites.google.com/site/completesg/system-hacks/priiloader
When using the GAF tutorial for systems on 4.2, this should work! Make sure to hold down B when you press + to start the installation.
Also, the file supposed to go in SD-root called "OLD-4.1-4.2-hacks.ini" should be renamed to "hacks.ini".
Then it just works after a safe-for-dummies-wonderful GAF tutorial!
I'm off to look for DarkWii-theme for 4.2E !!! Now it's safe because I have priiloader installed and can restore my nand-backup upon brick!
Instead of using the live ISO linux partition I used this windows program to partition my USB disk to Fat32.
I just thought this would help someone like me who didnt want to go into linux to partition there USB drive.
The forum wont let me post a real link so you will need to google: ipauly bootice.
